Cystic Fibrosis: A Journey of Hope, Determination, and Community Support

Huntington Beach, California

Meet the Scott Family and Their Son Paul

Local HB residents the Scott family fights a battle every dayā€”a battle against cystic fibrosis (CF). For the Scotts, this fight is deeply personal. Their son, Paul, was diagnosed with CF in 2015, and since that day, theyā€™ve been relentless in their mission to raise funds and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF).

Over the years, the Scotts have achieved incredible success, raising an astonishing $275,000. This funding has directly contributed to the development of groundbreaking drug therapies, dramatically improving the quality of life for Paul and countless others living with CF. But their story is more than just numbersā€”it's about hope, perseverance, and the power of community.

What is Cystic Fibrosis?

Cystic fibrosis is a rare disease that affects approximately 30,000 people in the United States and 70,000 worldwide. Each year, around 1,000 new cases are diagnosed in the U.S. alone. While CF can affect individuals of all racial and ethnic groups, it is most common among people of Northern European descent.

CF is a genetic disorder that primarily impacts the lungs and digestive system. It is caused by mutations in the CFTR gene, which leads to the production of thick, sticky mucus that clogs the airways and traps bacteria, resulting in frequent lung infections. The severity of symptoms and the age at which they appear can vary significantly from person to person, but most individuals are diagnosed by age 2.

How Can You Help?

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation: Leading the Fight for a Cure

Founded in 1955, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for CF and improving the quality of life for those affected by the disease. The CFF funds research, provides access to care, and supports advocacy efforts to ensure that individuals with CF receive the best possible treatment.

Thanks to the tireless work of the CFF, significant advancements have been made in the treatment of CF, including the development of breakthrough drug therapies like Trikafta. This groundbreaking drug targets the defective protein caused by CFTR gene mutations, offering many CF patients a chance at a longer, healthier life. These advancements are made possible through the dedication of families like the Scotts and the generosity of donors who support their mission.

Join the Fight with the Scott Family

This year, the Scott family is taking on a new challengeā€”the Xtreme Hike, a grueling 7-mile trek through the rugged terrain of Mammoth Lakes. This hike is not just a test of physical endurance; it's a symbol of the uphill battle that individuals with CF face every day. By participating in the Xtreme Hike, the Scotts are raising funds and awareness for the CFF, continuing their commitment to making CF stand for Cure Found.

The fight against CF is far from over, and the Scott family is determined to keep pushing until a cure is found. They have set an ambitious goal of raising $20,000 for this year's Xtreme Hike, and they need your support to make it happen. Your tax-deductible donation goes directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and helps fund the research and development of new therapies that can save lives.
